Not exactly the same but when I bought a Rolex Date once, the first time I tried to set it, the crown stem came loose. The watch went back to the seller as they wouldn't pay for the repair. I didn't need a 34mm watch after all even with a Buckley Dial.I think you can remove the magnification date bubble completely if you want though I doubt that it is a reasonable option for you.
